Collins, (William) Wilkie
(8 ene. 1824, Londres, Inglaterra–23 sep. 1889, Londres).

Novelista inglés. Tras incursionar brevemente en el ámbito legal y comercial, se dedicó a la literatura y cultivó una relación de amistad con Charles Dickens, quien ejerció una influencia formativa en su carrera. Dos obras bastaron para consagrar a Collins como uno de los primeros y más relevantes escritores ingleses de novelas de misterio. La dama de blanco (1860), inspirada en un caso criminal real, lo hizo famoso. La piedra lunar (1868), una de las primeras novelas inglesas de detectives, introdujo ciertos tópicos que con el tiempo llegarían a ser característicos de ese género literario.
